History

CertainTeed began operating as a manufacturer of roofing products in 1904 under the name General Roofing Manufacturing Company of East St. Louis, Illinois. It became a subsidiary of Saint-Gobain Corporation - "the world's largest building materials company" according to the company website - in 1988. CertainTeed employs 7,000 workers in 70 facilities in the United States and Canada.

The Saint-Gobain Corporation is based in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania and has approximately 22,000 employees in North America with an additional 200,000 around the world. Its nearly 200 factories produce industrial ceramics and containers, reinforcements and flat glass, abrasives, and building materials.

Warranty

CertainTeed provides warranties for its siding that cover manufacturing defects and workmanship for varying lengths of time depending on the product. Most of its warranties are for however long the original installer of the siding owns the home. The warranty may be transferred to a subsequent homeowner but it will be prorated based on the number of years since the installation of the CertainTeed siding. Transferred warranties apply for up to 50 years from the date the product was put in place and don't cover fade protection. Warranties for 15 years only cover CertainTeed's ColorMax paints.

Homeowners who believe their CertainTeed siding has manufacturing defects, hail damage, or has faded beyond normal weathering should contact the company. Their warranties state that building owners must promptly notify CertainTeed in writing and provide the following: proof of property ownership, the date of property purchase, and the date of siding purchase and installation.
