Lindal Review: "Cedar Siding Rules"

Location: Friday Harbor, WA

Wood Siding Satisfaction Rating:
4 of 5 stars Somewhat Satisfied

I own a Lindal cedar home and it's a wonderful thing, with a few caveats. The cedar siding is gorgeous and blends in perfectly with the Pacific Northwest forest I live in. It looks and smells great and keeps the house insulated from the often inclement weather. I can't think of any other siding that would be more aesthetically pleasurable to have on my house, and I don't plan to ever replace it. However, there are a few things that sort of bother me about it. The first is the blackening - the shingles need to be washed intensely with a power washer to remove the layer of black buildup that can damage them if left uncleaned. This is kind of a big pain in the butt. The second thing is that the cedar is attractive to local woodpeckers, who have found a spot on the house that they are digging a hole into with their beaks. Because replacing the shingles is difficult, this has the possibility of becoming a major problem. Aside from that, I am very pleased with the siding.
